Iowa top soil a problem?

Is the thick rich top soil of iowa considered to be a quick sinker of coins, rings, and small relics? Should i only search construction sites?

I live in iowa , most of the ground i search is black river sand i live in a river vally , but i get to black dirt , clay areas and i have no trouble , they do sink faster in the sandy soil , i have found coins at 8 inches in clay and black dirt
