Default New Detector Fever

I currently own a GTA 500 which I bought new in 95 but I was thinking of maybe looking for a newer machine.I like to hunt for coins, and jewerly. Is there one out there that is better than what i have and will out perform my 500?My 500 works great and looks like new but I know technology has changed over the past few years. What would you do? Which new detector would you recomend?

I own a CZ5 and I sometimes have the same problem as you. I look at the newer models but most times I realize that I do just fine with my ole CZ5. Yea the newer models have more bells and whistles, but more does not necessarily mean better. If you're coin hunting most of the time the vast majority of coins are found less than 6" deep so you don't need that deep seekin machine. Also the way I see it, the more sensitive the machine the more up keep or chance of it breaking. I say this and i'll probably spend a good amount of time this winter checking out new md's myself. Good luck

There are several newer detectors that can outperform the 500. Get a price you want to spend in mind and then give me a call. I'm sure I can help you get into a new detector.:santahat:

For sure get an idea of the amount of money you want to spend, and give one of our sponsors a call. I am sure they will be able to help you, Beale.

Hi, Donny and welcome to TQ! I understand the fever. I am always looking at the ads in the latest MD'ing magazine and lickin' my lips!

I can only suggest that you research and get the best machine you can afford. Your finds in the past probably paid for your first one and your future finds will probably pay for your next one!

Good luck and let us know what you decide!

Well, I found me a Garrett 2000 model detector.Does anyone know much about this detector or own one?How would it compare to the 2500 model?I think I got a pretty good deal on this one.It does have Treasure Vision and I'm looking foward to using it.If someone owns one please tell me how you like yours. What do you think one of these would sell for used in good shape?

Well, My GTI 2000 came in today and it looks like a great machine.I'm looking foward to trying it out over the X-mas holidays.I won it on E-Bay and got a great deal in it.I know it's not important but does anyone know where i can find a "Brochure" from when they were new.It came with a owners manual, digging tool, carring bag,and a coil cover. The original brochure is just something I would like to have.
Thanks,Donny

I don't know about a brochure, but in the treasure mags, Garrett usually runs full page ads, occassionally you'll see older TH mags for sale, they may at least get you the ad. I give alot of my mags away, but I may have some with that model in it, I'll take a look.
