Default Gps?

Hello Gang - I was browsing around the MD sites today and was wondering if there is a MD out yet that incorporates a GPS? If not, I think it would be a pretty cool idea. When I do get started in the spring, I am planning on keeping a journal of places I hunt. I would like to include a latitude and longitude in the event I ever want to get back to that exact place.
Imagine hunting a spot late in the day and you have to leave but want to return there because it may look promising. If your like me, forgetting if I am right or left handed, it would be a nice tool to help us memory impaired folks.
Just a thought..... Does anyone on the forum keep a detailed journal?
Please let me know.
Thanks
Jerry

Hey Jerry,
I was thinking about doing that once I found something worth it. Probably a rough map with finds, locations marked, etc. I only seem to have trouble remembering to bring home milk or bread. Have fun and take care!

Default Me To...

Yes, my memory is good... its just short! Seriously, say you find a ring, for instance and 4 or 5 months later you (somehow0 find the person that owns the ring. And like a good guy, you return it but she/he says, "I actually lost 2 rings and a watch.... do you remember where you found this? Having a journal and a GPS position, it would come in handy. There are many scenerios like that I'm sure, Plus... it would be interesting to look back on some of the places you have been......
I'm probably going to make this fun hobby a little more work than I should!!! :santahat:
Happy Holidays

Howdy,
I do a lot of orienteering and geocache with my youngest boys (ages 8 & 11). They both know how to shoot an azimuth, pace count and use a topo or grid map. That being said, I use a eTrex Vista HCx to log and track sites which a later download to my PC. I can also find promising sites on the internet which I upload to my Vista. I've done the map and compass thing for many years and although it is much less expensive it is vastly more time consuming requires a file cabined to store the maps and notebooks. Both Garmin and Magellan make personal navigators in a variety of price ranges. If you spend a lot of time in countryside or travel the unknown quite often, a personal nav (GPS) with the local topo loaded can a great life/time saver.

I use my gps when I am hunting old homesites in the woods but I am too lazy to keep any kind of detailed notes. Just as a side note I always have my compass with me because I would never rely on my gps since it runs on batteries. JC:reindeer:
