Default Do you tumble your wheat pennies?

I just looked on ebay and wheat pennies are selling fairly well. I have been tumbling my wheat finds. Is that a good idea?

Thank you

david

I have debated this with myself. I have come to the conclusion that I will unless a key or semi key date. I really do not intend to sell them, but that may change, Beale.

Default Learning Crub

I would think that a tumbler would ruin a coin as a collectable. I may be completely wrong; because folks here use tumblers alot on some coins. Having said that, I have ruined wheats with lemon juice and salt. Only the stuborn ones what had pits. Im trying to soak it all in but thier is a lot to learn. I had a hard time with patients/intisapation with new finds...

Try this, lay your wheaties on wax paper and coat them with Elmers glue. Let it dry and then peel it off. It will remove a lot of the dirt and grime and will not harm the coin.

If they aren't "cruddy" I'd leave them alone. If you have a tumbler, try a few, but check them every 30 minutes & stop when there at a point your satisfied with, then make your own decision.

I tumble my clad & zinc pennies (seperately) in white aquarium gravel & can't see where it hurts it. That said, I wouldn't tumble any valuable ones. Change the water in the tumbler often too, as it'll turn black from the tarnish.

Indiana Smith has good advice on those wheats when they are not key dates. JC
