Default Speaking of meteorites.....

I woke sometime last night(around 200am, I think). Walked over to the sliding glass door, and as soon as I looked out, there was a bright blue flash. Good, I thought.......a storm is coming. Wrong.......All the stars were shining, with not a cloud in the sky. I have seen many over the years that light the sky up(like lightning). Neat experience.....

Personally, I wouldn't know a meteorite if it bit me - so, I'd love to learn more about them!

I'm really encouraged by the positive response to meteorites!

If you guys want, I'll make a page on Kellyco for the research that I did,... it's not the most scholarly paper on meteorites, but it's written for an audience of metal detectorists and could be helpful for those of us who are interested but can't seem to wade through all the scientific stuff.... anybody want me to do that? If not, just say no... my feelings won't be hurt

Metal detector superstore All metal detectors and any accessories needed for metal detecting <---- Allllll about meteorites. Like I said, it's not very scientific or in-depth, but I wrote it FOR us, and I think it's a good introduction for metal detectorists. Let me know whatcha think, or if there is other info you would like added to the page... I'm kindof a writer...

The only thing I would like to add to your info is the choice of detectors. Like was said most quality detectors will pick up meteorites because of the iron content, however, virtually all the successful meteorite hunters that I have had the pleasure of hunting with use machines that are dedicated gold detectors. GMT, Golldbug II and of course the entire line of minelab PI machines are very popular but of course this is just my observation of serious hunters here in the arizona deserts and many of the meteorites here were discovered by people searching for gold. Of course if I didn't live in an area surrounded by placer deposits I probably wouldn't buy a gold machine to hunt the occasional space rock. Just my 2¢

Another good thing about meteorite detecting is that they can be anywhere, and everywhere. We don't have to do alot of study or research to have productive places to hunt(like schools, churches, CW camps, beaches, etc.). Any fields, yards, or woods can produce. At least that would be my assumption.......
