Unhappy Whats your thoughts on rechargable battreys?

Hi Folks;
I'm new to your forum and also new to rechargable battreys. I use a Garrett gti 1500 most of the time and get 20 hrs. hunting or less on a set of batts. So about every 3-6 days I'm buying batts. I'm sure the battery folks love us detector THers!
Anyway, I read an artical on these new Nickel Metal Hydried Batts. and as to how good they are, I bought 8 of them at $40.00 . Then found out that my 8 cell Ni-Cad charger woulden't work to charge the new Ni-MH batts., so $10.00 for a 4 bay rig that would , Radio Shack loves me too! I bought the 2000mAh AA Bats. then after buying those I find there are 2500mAH batts. available " Radio Shack here don't have them" so I diden't know there was a 2500 .
Now that I"ve bought a new computer "my old one died during the Battery search" I find there's also a Lithium rechargable? So what's the best way to go? So far the Ni-MH seem to be holding there charge well, 2Hrs. running on first charge, alkalines would be down to the first bar on the meter, Ni-MH still show full charge.
This battery thing "and the computer" are driveing me to drink .
Your thought on the batterys would help, meanwhile I'll go do some more ground fishing and battery testing....Thanks Folks!!......Gene.......

I know it costs a little more to use regular batteries,but I prefer them !!,,

No chance of putting over charged batteries into my detector !! some of these rechargables will go to 7.5 or better and have to be bled down to 6.0 before use !!(depending on your detector my whites has specific warnings against over charged batteries !!!)

also the time and trouble of cycling the rechargables during times of limited or no use, is a pain !!

Welcome to the forum, Glad to have you here !!! Lots of great people and info !!

Rick

Hello,
I use the NI-MH rechargeable batteries and just love them. hey save me money and probably could detect 12 to 16 hours on one charge. 'm using the Minelab EXII. These batteries have no memory so that good.

Welcome to the forum Gene!

I feel your PAIN Papa Gene,

All i can say is Thanks for rechargable factory battery packs. I had nothing but bad luck and gave up on individual rechargable batteries and just keep the standard battery case loaded with Dura Cells as backups while charging the rechargable packs. Sure would be nice if Garrett changed their battery system especially on their high drain detectors. Good Luck HH Bill

i do also use just the regular plain batteries, i find you have to buy them from a well used supermarket and buy a good brand of battery. this is because the batteries have not sat on the shelf for too long and the good brands may cost that little bit more but they do last a lot longer. thats just my opinion

Default Batterys-nicad

I perfer the nicad. I use White's 6/DB it takes 2-packs of batterys a 6 pack and 8 pack(that cost a lot). My nicads, I have stay charged for 2 weeks(8-hours use a day) that's save me a lot of cash, but I have a back-up of the regular batterys
too.

Welcome to the forum Gene!

Talking Thanks for all the views & wellcomes!!

Hi folks;
Well so far I have near 9 hours on the rechargeables and i'm a happy guy! They still show a full charge, so I took um out and tested them on a meter, yup! 1.1 Volt average!! I have a friend on the East coast who's stopping by on his way to Oregon, were going to go and see if we can get some gold nuggets with our machines. If it stops raining, it's been dumping for 3 days now and we have snow in the mountians already.... Gene
