Default What is everyone going to do this winter?

I personally plan to research and search on warmer day's. I have spot's picked out that look too snaky during the summer. I thought this might be a good question and answer session for the newcomer's. HH

I guess I'm done hunting for the year. We just got 14" of the miserable white stuff, and the temps are dropping down to the single digits. So I'm gonna hit the books, maps, and the library and see what I can scare up for next years hunting. Good luck to all of you that still have soft ground to play in. HH

Got that right boobie,
I have a one man landscaping company since 1980 and i don't get out as often as i would like during the busy part of my season, but from Nov. thru March i'm chomping at the bit to get out and detect every minute i can and woods hunting is a big part of it.As boobie said the underbrush is thinner and the ground takes a lot longer to freeze under those leaves. When the turf is frozen there is hardly a time i can't hunt in the woods except when the snow's too deep.I love to hunt anytime, anywhere but seem to get more time in the wooded areas. I'm sure there are a lot of new folks to the hobby who live in the northern states and just hunt the same playgrounds ,schools, churches, and friends and relatives homes etc.and when the cold sets in and the ground freezes they think it's over, well try winter woods hunting, it's great and you may perhaps hit an unknown hotspot. I've never seen a forum dedicated to woods hunting, whether it be finds, equipment needed, the best warm weather gear, the best type detector, where to look first and so on and so on. Sorry for another long post but if it wasn't for woods hunting i wouldn't have half the time metal detecting as i'd like and it is another extension of this great hobby. HH Bill

I guess I am lucky that winter isn't as harsh as it is up North of me. It does get cold but there are mild day's that are acceptable for me to hunt. I hope that everyone is able to research new prospective place's to hunt for the next year. May your Research be as prosperous as your hunt's to come. Have a good winter.

Day time temps are still in the low 70's here in the desert, night time is another story, but my season is about to begin.

Happy Hunting !!

Weatherman says the snow is gonna start flying here the next couple of days so time for indoor toys. Wife and I went out yesterday and got $2.98 in clad and some kid jewelry from under frozen playground bark. Wife Rosie is a jeweler so she stays busy with her silver, I do pen and ink artwork. We both make leather horse tack, Rose does the cutting and sewing, I do the braiding, she also adds silver and turquoise on some so we have a whole winter of staying busy and close to the wood stove.
Also, RESEARCH.. Bob
