Welcome Sgt Set,
I have never used a 1225 but do have and use, as my back up detector, the 1235. I currently use the 1270. The 1225 is not that much different from the 1235. I am not sure what you will be hunting for but I will offer what I know. I always set my 1235 at Disc 6 or 7. This should rule out most of the the iron and trash (tinfoil bits, small aluminum, etc.) In an area with out a lot of trash I would put sensitivity to 10. When in junky areas turn it back to 2 or 3. That is about it with that machine really. It is an easy to use turn on and go detector. It has good depth capability but for real deep items you will have to listen and get used to the machine. Hope this helps a little and happy hunting,
Travis

Hi Sgt Set,
Welcome to the forum, if you ask the help will come as Travis already posted the most beneficial operating settings.

In my opinion the 1225,1235x,1235x2 are excellent detectors and use the same basic circuit with various enhancements. They all share the ability to hunt very well in iron infested areas meaning they can beep on good targets mixed in with small rusty iron nails around old home foundations where more than a few detectors cry Uncle. They are very good in trashy areas especially with a 5" coil and i call my 1236x2 "The Sniper" with that coil because it's so precise and picked out silver at older parks where hundreds if not thousands of hrs were spent looking for goodies by many treasure hunters. BTW with the 5" coil i had discrimination set on 8 and still found many silver dimes next to pulltabs close to the surface.
I have found if you run the discrimination at 1 or 2 it will pick up tiny gold jewelry down to about 3" with sensitivity on 9 at places with little trash. It should do well at fresh water swimming areas.Feel free to private message me if you have any questions. Good Luck Bill

Thumbs up

Thanks for the help. I am going to have to get some adjustable volume headphones so I can pick up the faint signals. I try to run it at Disc 5 1/2 and sen at 10. This seems to get me a good balance of still picking up gold but elim some of the trash. I take it there is no way to disc out soda and beer cans since no matter what I do these still sound off as a good tone.

You can't disc out cans but if you raise the coil while sweeping over the target you'll soon notice that coin beeps go silent long before a can or other large target and if using pinpoint mode go slow and should notice how quick a coin passes vs a can.Wadded up aluminum foil is also a problem child that beeps above nickel setting.
