Smile Detector Reccomendations???

Hello all, I am new to site and have been pleasantly suprised thus far! I live on 2-1/2 acres of old Civil War land in Virginia and have access to 10+ add'l acres. Plenty of bunkers/fortifications on property. I would like to begin with some Civil War Relic hunting and would like suggestions on which dectectors are best suited for this type of hunting. Your quick responses are greatly appreciated. I can also be reached by email at m_riley@prodigy.net Thanks for all suggestions.

Sincerely,

M. Riley

Default Suggestion

I use the ACE250. Light weight..not really expensive and an all around great detector. I have used quiet a few in my time and I really enjoy the 250. It gets the job done.
What part of VA. do you live in. I live close to the VA. border on the Western side. Maybe we can do a little hunting together...PAPPY

riley some ground in va is hot.lots of hunters up your way use whites some us the minelab some fishers.detectors are like vehicles, just according what kind of bells and whistles ya want.main thing is ground balance, and using the detector and learning its voice(tones) to what its saying.dig all and cover yer holes.

Default Which detector ???

Hi !! Mr. Riley !!! I started out in this hobby with a Bounty Hunter Quick Draw || !! Good machine and I found ALOT of goodies with it . It was a enexpendsive machine that I used for 2 years . I upgraded to a Whites Spectrum XLT . It has a learning curve though but once I practiced with it for awhile with the different custom programs I have been finding those deepies (OLD COINS ) MOST of the OLD coins I have been finding relitively deep and my Spectrum XLT does the job VERY WELL !!! Good luck in your quest for a relic machine and if ya want to spend a little extra cash my suggestion would be the Spectrum XLT !!! happy hunting !!! kENNETH

I'd look at a good relic hunting detector. The MXT is one as well as the Tesoro Tejon. Let me know if you need any help.

May also want to take a close look at the Minelab Advantage, especially if you just need a beep and dig Deep Relic Hunter. HH Bill

Hi Free, yeah your right a different reply from each user. I favor Tesoros but being a dealer I get to try out a lot of different instruments. I must say that Fisher ID Edge is pretty keen. I have been enjoying the learning experience with it. When it comes to the bottom line they all basically do the same thing whether it be a 129.95 special or 1200.00. They are all limited by the laws of physics. CU later Free and have a good one, God Bless.

Default Md

I just got my first MD, Jan 06, a Whites MXT. It was a little intimidating at first but I love this machine. My advise to you is no matter what detector you buy, dig everything until you are confident in what your machine is telling you. Then once you are confident with your machine, dig everthing in your civil war site .

Default ace 300

I use a Ace 300. which is now an ace 250. the 300 is a great machine using the 12" crossfire it really gets deep. the 8" does very well too, about 6" deepest have recovered with it. I think for the money a ACE 250 would be a great first for you.
