Hi Tim, nice to meet you. Well the reason for various frequencies is, low frequency goes a bit deeper but may not be as sensitive to small targets. The high frequency may not go as deep but will be much more capable of sensing small gold items and nuggets. So there is a trade off. I just got through talking to Kevin at Minelab USA and he has said the X70 will make a great dual purpose instrument and that includes gold nugget detecting. Of course there are 3 different coils, each set for a specific frequency. Ok Tim I hope I haven't confused anyone and take care my friend.
