Question Coin Cleaning Methods?

Hi, I am trying to find out a way to clean the coins that I dig. I was told that an Olive Oil soak works well and was also told that there is an electric way of cleaning them... I would like to know more about this electric method. Anyone out there who applies this electric method, please let me know how it is done and how good it may work. Thank you!

I think it was the electrolysis method???
My daughter has a rock tumber, would that work with coins (minus the rocks)?

Can you explain both methods? Thanks!

Get a rock tumbler , add in aquarium rock about half full, add water , i use about a glass full, use more if you want to , add in some arm and hammer washing soda (not baking soda ) put in your coins , about a glass full, let run for 12 hours or until the coins are clean , works great , good luck

If your talking about doing lots of coins to recirculate at the bank, use the tumbler. Elec does ok on silver, however if you get an old copper it has a tendancy to pit the coin. Id just use soap and water, peroxid, or vinigar or amonia sparenly then put it in olive oil.

Default Ultrasonic Cleaner

I was looking online and came across this...
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...temnumber=3305

It sells for roughly $40... don't know much about it... I noticed it when I was shopping Harbor Freight a couple of weeks ago, but didn't really pay it much mind.
When searching the website I also seen a much more expensive model also:
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=91957

Any idea if either of these would work for cleaning coins?

Default Harbor Freight Rock Tumbler

I just purchased the 3 lb. tumbler that Harbor Freight had on sale. I got it home and had a hard time getting the cover off the darn thing! It is back in its box until I get all the ingredients I need in order to clean the coins. I do need to get some of that Washing Soda... is that the same as clothes washing powder?? I need to get some aquarium gravel and some sand as well. As soon as the above ingredients are aquired, I will post my progress with the machine.

While I was at Harbor Freight earlier, I was looking again at the Ultrasonic Cleaners that I posted in post #8 in this thread. I am still wondering if any of you have used an ultrasonic cleaner such as these to clean coins and if this may do the job as well. Thanks!

If you have aquarium gravel you do not need the sand. At least the sand never made a difference in my tumbler, and was a lot more messy.

When I got my gravel all I did before using it was to strain it thought a colander to get rid of the tiny little black stones that were in it.
Okay... Where or Where do I find Arm & Hammer Washing Soda??? I looked yesterday when I was out at the stores and am unable to find it anywhere in any department!!! I know what the box looks like since I typed it up on the internet, however it seems that stores down here don't order it.

Thanks Pappy,

I have figured that the internet purchase would be required since I was having such a hard time finding it in the stores. I have a couple more stores to check out today, and if I am unable to find it there, I will have to make my purchase online - unless there is an alternative brand besides Arm & Hammer that would work equally well for cleaning the coins. I do have all the other supplies to get those coins cleaned. Just anxious, I guess.
