Hello Detectorists. I'm Dave. I've been detecting for the last two weeks. It's getting cold here in E Iowa, and I'm sure the frost has set in by now. I have not been out in a few days. I have, however discovered this site, and I am quite impressed. I met a detectorist from E Iowa who's name is also Dave. I'm getting anxiouse to try some new ideas. I have a BH Pioneer 505. It has All Metals Ground Tracking Mode, Ground balancing, Descriminate, Notch, and Auto notch modes. This brings me to a few questions. Should I ground balance just for ground track mode or should I always start out by balancing? When looking for gold rings, will I get a more consistent...say pull tab reading? When setting descriminate is it necessary to actually scan the object you wish to eliminate, other then turning knob to an established point? Also, same question for notch and auto notch mode.

i'm not an expert, but i ground balance every different area i go, each area is different, and you don't want to miss anything. and pull tabs and coins sometimes are the same, until you get to know your detector, hopefully i didn't steer you wrong, i'm in central fla and the ground differs
around here!!!
