Default Anyone familiar with Troy Detectors?

I have been searching online for Metal Detecting clubs and people in my area of Louisiana and I came across a website where the guy uses some detectors to hunt with made by Troy. The ones he uses are the Troy Shadow X2 and the X5. He has quite a collection of interesting finds, some cannonballs and other huge artillerary shells. Some he claims to have found at 4 feet deep. From viewing some of the photographs he has at the site, he is sitting on the ground with his legs hanging down into the hole he dug to recover one find.

My question: Can these metal detectors really discover objects as far down as 4 feet?? Here is the link to the page I am telling you about:

Good detectors for sure though a bit pricey. They are no longer being made. Look into the Tesoro Tejon and other Tesoros. Also right up there with the Troys and cheaper to boot. If you need any more plaese do not hesitate to ask.

Default If you are going for depth.

I would recommend the Nautilus IIBa. It is a great detector and easy to learn. Tesoro also makes some good detectors; the Tejon and Vaquero are good machines.

As far as the Troy detector series go I am not sure I would venture down that path. They are not being made anymore and I would have to question service if I bought a used one. Of course that is only my opinion; but having owned one and seeing where the company was headed I sold mine and moved on.

Check with Chuck at Treasure Hut, he sales the Nautilus IIBa as well as the Tesoro line. Also stay tuned to the Nautilus link on TQ, I will be doing a mod next week on the Nautilus IIBa and show step by step how to balance the detector a little better then the stock pole allows.

I am not interested in purchasing a relic metal detector... I was kinda caught offguard when I read that he found some relics at 4 feet deep. I think it is really awesome that a metal detector is able to search as deep as this... just was asking if the Troy detectors he was using was actually able to search as deep as he claimed.

I am considering purchasing a Minelab Explorer SE metal detector in the new year for coin and jewelry hunting, not in any major rush to obtain it just yet...
