Hello every one,
I am frustrated enough to ask for help from any one who might know an easy way for me to learn how to pin point with a Tesoro Cibola. I've had a White's XLT for years, and love the accuracy it gives me in pin pointing. Just bought the Cibola as a back up, and son of a gun, yesterday, my XLT screen went blank. Couldn't get the machine to pull the screen back up, so thought, this was a good a time as any to try the new machine out. I'd read the manual, and it seemed like it was the same type of pin pointing as my XLT. Start "Xing" across the target, (with the pin point button pushed in) and when the tone reaches the higest/loudest sound, the target should be directly in the center of the coil. What I was getting was "dead" (no) sound in some parts of the coil as it passed over the target. I would get a double "beep", or a continuous signal that started to get loud, then it would go dead, or give me double beep. I like to have went nuts trying to find the target. Finally gave up (I did find a few targets, but all the digging moved them around so I couldn't tell where it was orginally) I didn't want to leave huge dug out area's also. The other thing I'm having trouble with is adjusting the threshold sound. I followed the instructions in the manual. I held the pin point button down and adjusted the threshold button to a steady tone. But as soon as I released the pin point button, the threshold sound disappeared. The only time I would hear it, was when I was trying to pin point. So there it is guys.... I'm sure I must be doing something that for some one who is familiar with Tesoro's will get a nice laugh from them, but it's driving me crazy. I spent today reading the manual and trying to figure out the pin pointing, and haven't made any head way. Any and all suggestions/instructions/tips would be sincerely appreciated. I would truly be in your debt, if I can figure this out. If I learn how to do this, I promise never to tape a dime to the bottom of my hunting buddies coil when he's not looking again. Sensen |

Try putting some objects on the ground without noticing where you put them. Place or drop a piece of cardbord over the area where the targets are. Scan across the top and try to pinpoint the target. Place an X on the cardboard where you think the target is and then lift it up to see how close you were. You can also just place some coins on the top of the ground and caregul look at where the high sound comes across as you watch where the center of the target is. Your coil is ovel so the center is not exactly where the pinpoint is.

Chuck, Toni,
Really want to thank you guys. I've printed your ideas/instructions out, and will be working on everything you suggested. Now that I've read what you had to say, it's starting to make some sense. I'll be careful not to super tune the machine. Expecting rain today, but will be out in the field in a few days and let you know how it goes. Thanks again for being so patient and willing to help. Sensen P.S. Guess I'll have to tell my hunting buddy that all those corroded and chopped up pennies he's finding across the field from me, were tossed there by me. I'm feeling just a little guilty.... Slows him down, and he has this confused look on his face for days afterwards. I also checked to make sure he hadn't taped a dime on my coil. |
