Default Detecting at Air Fields / Airports

Has anyone ever gone MDing at an air field or airport? I just permission to MD on airport property (outside the fence line). Just wonder what all may be out there.

The airport has been around since the early 1900's first as a grass field and now it is a regional airport. I think one of the reasons I am excited is because it is right next to route 11 in western MD. (Ok I may have just given up the location or maybe even the airport....hahaha) And as far as I can tell US 11 was once a supply road during the CW. Who knows, I will go when the weather is dry, keep your fingers crossed for this weekend!

No, I haven't tried on of those yet, sounds like it could be interesting though. Let us know how you do. Good luck.

Very cool link. But this airport is still active. I don't know what the "rules" are about sharing your hunting spots, but everyone does seem to be pretty honest.

It is the Hagerstown Reginal Airport, in Hagerstown, MD. I work on the airfield for a private company and I have direct dealings with airport management. I got permission yesterday from the airport manager. The airport has been around since the early days of aviation and the places I am going are outside the airports fence. I am guessing that the houses I will be allowed to go where built for piolets back in the 1940's.

But there was alot of history on this field and in the area. Plus when I asked for permission I took Boobie's advice. I told the airport manager that if I found anything historically significant to the airport I would turn it over to her or to the Hagerstown Aviation Musem.

I am not sure when I will go a'huntin. But I will let you know if it was worth it!
