i'm new here, just bought 2 whites MXTs

I have used Whites detectors for years and found them to be excellent detectors. I currently use a Minelab Soverign as my main detector, but still keep a Whites 6000 Di Pro and Eagle II at the ready. I have two underwater detectors (Fisher 1280X and Minelab Excaliber) and a Fisher Goldstrike for special use.

While I don't have the MXT, it does have a good reputation and I think you will come to like it more and more as you gain experience with it.

Try planting a 'test garden' with good and junk items and practice with your detector on these items. Be sure to use headsets and listen to the sound carefully before looking at the meter. Your ears can discriminate better than the meter in many cases. Good crisp audio signals can tell you a questionable target on the meter may be worth not passing up.

haven't got to use them as much as i'd like but so far we have found about $30.00 in coins, a 10k gold ring, a junker ring and a cell phone. we still have a LOT to learn but really enjoy it when we do get to use them. i've got permission to search one of the old farm houses here in town, it's from the early 1900s but haven't been able to find time to get over there, yet. . Don't be too quick to pass up those iron signals at the old farm house, it could be a cache. Also a good idea to dig all repeatable crisp signals.
