Default DFX with the DX-1

I've been looking at different sites and here regarding the DX-1 attached to the DFX. I see how it attaches, but I still don't get how it works .

I have a Whites pinpointer that I use when I'm digging. Relatively simple, get near a target it vibrates or buzzes. Now, I know the Dx-1 is attached to the DFX and can turn the coil off and the probe on, which in turn, can be read on the LCD display screen. What advantage does this have over the handheld pinpointer?

And how does it work? If you locate a target, cut a horseshoe plug out, then switch over to the DX-1, do you have to take the probe off the DFX and insert it into the hole as you would a pinpointer? Can someone give me a rundown on how you would use it.

Last, but not least, I don't know if anyone has that combination here (DFX & DX-1), but if you do, would you recommend it over the handheld pinpointer, and why...........................thanks.

Thanks boobieinPa

"If I don't get anything I put the probe into pinpoint mode, instead of just the 1 inch coil that it is."

I'm not clear here on what you mean. A 1" coil? Is that what the tip of the probe is acting like when in use? The DX-1 has an option to switch over to pinpoint mode (act like a Whites handheld pinpointer)?

It looks like it would be an advantage to have it mounted on the DFX. No chance of dropping (losing) it. I just may be investing here soon.

Ok, I kinda get it. I'm a little dense sometimes , but seems to make sense.

Basically, I have a 'mini' metal detector when I stick the probe in the hole, which shows up on the LCD display as to where the object is. I can then switch to a pinpoint which will tell me (audibily) when I'm next to it right?

Don....save you're pennies and get one....they're definitely worth it! I purchased mine through Treasure Hut (Chuck) and installed it to my machine today....I did some air testing with it today and I'm real excited about this new probe....AWESOME....just like having a mini-detector that you can stick down in your hole....I'm looking forward to using it out in the field soon!

Don, I have a DX-1 on my MXT. I bought it for Chuck also. I have had it for about 4weeks and I would not be with out it now. It has made finding items in a hole so much faster. Another benifit is that you can check the pill of dirt you have taken out of the hole very quickly without having to get up and use you metal detector. When I first installed it, it took about three holes to have it down to a science. I also found that you can lay it on the ground and us it like a windshield wiper. I use this technic when I have located a pocket drop that is spread out. I also call SunRay and talked to Ralph the owner and he gave me more tips. By the way, I sold my other pinpointer already, I had no use for it anymore. So if you have the money I would not hold back.

Used it like a windshield wiper. I like that. I'll be getting one soon. Between the DFX, accessories, books and now a new DX-1, I've invested a lot in the last couple months. I 'BETTER' like this hobby a lot.
