Default The Best Place to start your search?

I have a site, right across the road from me. It has several old building floors left, concrete, you can see where the doors were to the old buildings tho, I was thinking around the doors would be the best place to detect as that would have been where the traffic was. These buildings are all from the 20's and 30's time frame. Alot of garbage around them too. The whole area is going to be developed in the next year or two also.
Just up the road on an old trolley grade, I found a buffalo nickel about two years ago. Any Ideas??

Default Mail boxes

Another place to check is if the mail box was at the end of the driveway. In the old days they use to put pennies in the mail to pay for a stamp! tip

Default Hey Boobie

Funny you should mention trees,, My house was an old boarding house, and right across the road from the place I want to detect. when I first got my XLT I went strait to the apple tree in the front yard and found 6 wheaties in one hole.. So the base of trees is a favorite of mine. There are no trees on this site across the road tho. Just a lot of black dirt and concrete slabs.. there are still some old concrete structures still standing too... I did get permission to detect this area some time ago, but there was a lumber mill running there at the time and so I just never went over there.. You think that the permission would last this long?? Guess it woulndnt hurt to ask again tho,, they do get alot of people going in some of the old buildings when they arent suppose to. I have a 9.5 inch coil,, I see from some of the video's on TQ that alot of you use a much smaller coil, is it worth the investment for a beginner? K, well thanks again, and HH

Thumbs up Concrete zone,

You may want to determine where the workers ate their lunch and took breaks. If the Trolly line came down the street, where were the 'stops' located, could be some nice items centered around there as well. Sounds like a terrific location you have there. If the site was once housing, were there outhouses and where were the clothslines. Ground depressions may indicate where trees once stood.

Default The trolley line is pretty much gone

The trolley was gone years ago, and a business was built on top of most of the accessable area to me. The housing that was there actually belongs to me, but I had the entire yard landscaped with bulldozers and backhoes and stuff. I dont know how much was disturbed below say 4-6 inches. I did just find an old beer can top at about 2 inches tho, so it got me to thinking maybe my yard has just been moved around, so I plan to try and grid it out this summer. I have found one buffalo nickel and 6 wheats there in the past,,, but there is alot of garbage around the house too...
Across the road will be a challenge I think, because it is like 40 - 60 acres of open area, and where to start???? I have started tho, and am hanging around the oldest looking buildings for now, or slabs I should say.. But nothing yet,, I'll post my finds if I get any.. K,, thanks again

Default construction

Once the building have been leveled ,,,would be a great time to hit it hard ,,since most of the trash will be gone too,,see if you can detect there after the lot is cleared,,,
