Default Follow those creeks

Howdy Folks,

It's always a good idea in the fall and winter to follow or walk along side a creek and look for old homesites. I plan on doing this soon and raed about old homesite being located along my creek back in the 1700's

Good luck,

Default CREEKS

While walking those creeks and looking for old homesites, don't forget to look at the creeks for some good panning spots. We have had an awful lot of rain during the fall season here so there shold be a few loose nuggets in the creeks...KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN....PAPPY :D :D :D

Default Taking walks

Select a time to walk when the snow is melting after a light snow and you can see differences in soil density. Snow tends to stick and melt differently on looser packed soil than harder packed soil and can reveal old paths and roads that may not show up otherwise. This can also reveal areas of heavy use in old home sites. Where was the path to the barn and out house, or the work area by the sheds, how about the cloths line...

I just saw this post and thought it was a really neat idea. I wonder just how many people knew that. I know it's an oldy, but thanks, Cjoej!

Hey Boobie, I resurrected this one for this tip. I didn't know that soil density had any effect on snow.

I also did want you to fall in the creek and break any of your detectors.

Good advice Pappy, but I have a question along those lines... anyone here spent any time hunting creviced gold nuggets with their detector? I've been thinking of heading up to the Red River / Elizabethtown areas of NM here for a bit of just that. Of course, my Explorer II only has a 10.5" coil, so it might be a bit hard to get into those tight spots...
