Ishi, No. California

I've been reading a book called Ishi who was the last Yahi Indian found in Northern California.. The first part of the book tells the story of Indian raids and white man retribution in the foothills around the Chico area.. If you live in this area it's a good read and may lead to some good detecting.. Lots of mention of buried gold and objects of value hidden away by the Indians..
The little I know of the areas in question I would imagine it would all be private ranches, very hard access, nasty in the summer and watch for rattlers.

Sounds like some great hunting Bob! Wish I had got into this hobby when i was in San Diego...Navy kept me at sea and to busy to enjoy much freetime! I would definitely had checked some of the old gold mines and other sites out! Would have been prime md'ing country.
