Hey folks... I have had this idea for a long time, but just haven't done anything about it, so I finally sat down and wrote this to see if I can get permission to hunt... please let me know what you think of it:
"Hi, Mike - Hello, my name is Robert Chapman. I have a rather esoteric question, and I wasn't entirely sure where to begin, so if this does not concern you specifically, I apologize. I enjoy a hobby in which I search for and retrieve lost coins and jewelry items with a metal detector. I also enjoy music immensely, and have attended quite a few concerts at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre, in San Antonio, Texas. My question is, would it be possible to obtain permission to search the grassy areas located behind the covered seating area? To ease any concerns you may have, I would do no digging, but only retrieve objects with a small probe and will not harm the lawn in any way. There would be no visible evidence that I had even searched the area once I am done. Any searching would be done when there are no events or crowds, and I would be more than happy to work around any scheduling issues. If you have any information for me, or know who I would need to speak to, any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Robert Chapman"

Sounds great - I especially like how you stress there would be no digging and no "visible evidence" that you searched the area. I think a lot of people would be hesitant because they're afraid that the lawn would look like a minefield when people are done searching so emphasizing that you'll be cautious with that can only help the cause.
Good luck!

Thanks for all your input guys... I'm waiting to hear back, although, it's such an odd request that I'm not really holding my breath.
But, it would be so choice if I coluld get in there... it's been there for 7 years, and no one is allowed to bring in anything metal, so I wouldn't expect the grassy areas to be very trashy - AND - when huge crowds like that gather, and drink, (among other things Oh well, there's plenty of other places... but I'll keep my fingers crossed!
