Thank you all for your help and great information. I did not realize that such sites exist for the general public. I have done so much research trying to find such a site before to no avail in the past. Now that I do have some information to go off of, I will be spending a lot of time online to see if I cannot find some sort of GIS system for my area.

mlamp - Thank you for the link to the Baton Rouge GIS system. I live around an hours drive from Baton Rouge, but I do know TQ member Crbhood is from Baton Rouge, so he may be able to use this research to his advantage.

Thanks, carolinachief, for first mentioning the GIS system. I'll let y'all know what I come up with.

I am in my initial stages of searching for a GIS system for my local parish and I did come across a site that charges for the service, either by a monthly fee ($4.95) or a yearly fee ($48.50). Being that the monthly fee is around the cost of a pack of batteries for my metal detector, and it provides the information that I need to know to maybe get me onto old properties, would anyone here spend the money even though other cities offer this online service for free? Here is the link to the site that I came across in case anyone wants to see if this is the type of site that would give me the contact information that I would need. https://www.searchsystems.net/link_login.php
Thanks!

FinalLastDays if you have a good friend that would be willing to go into the court house for could get the information for you at no cost. That is is only a suggestion but it would work and no one would see you that you didn't get along with.

LeoinPA - That is definately a site that many can use to help guide them in research! I was able to bring up the area where one of the two sites I am eyeing is at. I was able to get even a topographical map to come up in that area, showing the house location. What I am not able to retrieve is the physical address of the house. I am not sure if this site is able to provide that detail, but it does give me more information than the other sites I have come across. The house is so old and run down, I doubt there is even an address visable on the house anymore. I will have to drive there and see.

Mlamp20412 mentioned that I should check with the tax assessors site to get information. I was able to find our local parish tax assessors website and it seems to have lots of information that I need for free as well. However when I clicked on the MAPS icon, a screen came up stating that this feature of the site is in progress and will be available shortly, to check back later. Soooo, I am so hoping that part of the site is available soon.

Default Parcel Maps

Use google.com and type in the "county name" and "parcel" and possibly "GIS". Many counties have online parcel maps in their GIS . Some states are more up-to-date that others. My hometown in MS doesn't have much online but here in FL most county parcel maps are online.

Datsun_medic - Thank you for the information. Two weeks ago I attempted once again to see if the GIS maps page on our local tax accessor's website was available, and it was. I checked out a few places, including my own property and it brought up all the information I wanted for contact information. NOW I have access to the contacts I need to write letters to. I know this is going to open doors to get me on old properties that I have been looking at. Once that takes place, the old coins and finds are sure to come! Thanks everyone for your help and input. I have definately benefited from this thread and the awesome posts you all have submitted. It is my hope all of the newer people to TQ can benefit from the information presented in this thread as well.

Stephan,
Many places also have access to that info through the recorder of deeds. Some are online and can be searched. Good luck on your hunts!
