can be as much fun as the detecting. I have been studying an area near me on the shores of Albemarle Sound which used to be home to many settlers. I've always thought about the many homesteads that have come and gone over the years and now lie under the dark waters of the sound. Some time ago I learned of a tombstone of a young girl who died in 1860 being found on the beach of the sound. I have made a few trips to the spot and have found some pottery shards that lead me to believe I am near the spot of one such old farm house site. On my last trip there I found a pocketful of shards and what appears to be an arrow point. My plan is to return to the site and detect the shallow water off the beach when the water warms next spring.

Wow, those are some very exciting artifacts. You probably have more physical evidence of their existance than anyone else! Great job
