Default Curious about Annual Festivals and Events

I was wondering if anyone ever followed behind hobby fairs and Festivals in their area? They are mostly located in parks or schools. Gordiesgirl goes behind a flee market.. Got me to thinking about events, like where hords of people show up for Fire works this new year or other major events. I have heard some do fair grounds?
I guess my question is have you ever ran into any problems searching these area's?

Our local hospital has a Strawberry Festival every year that I try to hit. Usually wind up with alot of clad and if I'm there soon enough after it's over, most is on or just under the surface. Did find a cheap ring a few years back.

Where there are a lot of people - there are a lot of people losing stuff!

I've never had any problem with hunting in "common" areas...parks, flea market areas, etc...

Happy Hunting!

I know they're good areas. I know some have researched where old fairgrounds are, but now they're just fields. All the flea market places where I am are asphalt.

Good luck!

We have a big bang at the city park for 4th of July...Clad has been my big finder in the area...No luck with any loss jewelry in the area where people gather for the display...but I am still looking!!
Have found a key or two...No problem with permission in my area here at the park...it has been hit by many detectorists. I have thought about hunting areas set up for selling fireworks...Probably lots of clad dropped and no telling what else could come out of the pockets...and the area wouldn't be a big area to hunt!!!

Now Bigbill never thought about hotels...Now that is an idea...but getting permission...might take some time and wonder if possible if not working there...May give that a try one day...Thanks for the tip!!!

Every town down here has a different festival, The Chitlin Strut- Salley,
The annual frog jump- Springfield, The peanut festival- Pelion, Must be some your way. I have these covered. I have not been asked to leave any of these sites. Most are just town owned fields or fair grounds. how about trying, up on route one the Aiken fair grounds, Bet there is lots of loot out there. good luck and Happy hunting

Default 4th and New Years Fireworks show

The crowds here are so large that if your up close it takes an hour; Just to get to your car. then good luck driving.

They have it at the River Walk, in Augusta GA; that has many- Many other events. If it is allowed im sure it is a dream to hunt being on the Savanaha River and by the Rail road too. It has more than a hand full of 100 yr old building and churches... it is atleats 30sq acres if not more. with many hills side where folk throw out the blankets to watch the river events.
I guess i find out tomorrow... wish me luck.
I just hate being told "NO"

Default I just missed out

I just missed out as they have recently tore out a parking lot that was by an old rail depot. looks like they have smoothed it out and planted ryegrass. Looks like they may put in a large grassy area! there was so many places I could not pick a spot to hunt before the Rain came pouring. Man I wished I had a few years of experience with me to help hunt it. The only thing is - the crack heads and the thieves are about. It use to be really bad, but about a billion or so has been spent to clean it up in the past 15 yrs. so it is way- way better! but you still have that inner city feel to it at some point. Im not sure id would hunt it at night... just because of the cost of my machine. My sheltered/spoil'd gf thinks diggin in the dirt is stupid, so she out of the question. Dogs have to have to be on a leash. so0o I guess I have to do it a little bit at a time. I imagine that beach goers have this same problem, like to hear your strategy?
