7 Types Of Treasure Hunters

Professional
Semi-pro
Amateur
Accidental
Stupid
Idiotic
Dead, Which Can Cover All The Other Categories If You Screw Up

The Basic Difference Between A Pro And A Amatuer Buff Is The Number Of Assumptions Made. The Pro Will Do Everything Possible To Reduce This Number To Zero. The Amatuer Will Take Off In All Directions At Once.

With all due respect, and pardon my newness, but isn't it just a little presumtious to refer to anyone here as "stupid" or "an idiot"...?

In this one post, you've assumed that I COULD be either Accidental, Stupid, Idiotic or Dead... I assure you that I WILL be dead, but I'm not any of the latter.

Where'd you find this infrmation, if I may ask?

The point of the True West, Dec 69 story was do your research and be prepared for any emergency. A professional Thunter does his homework. I am not talking about searching your local school yard. Go out in the desert or deep in the mountains unprepared and see how long you last. Don't take offense it's not directed toward you or anyone else on this board. It is something to think about! If you are a newbe you don't want to learn the hard way. Things do happen. I've made my mistake's and forunately my bones are not out in the mountains or some desert hole. If you find a lead research it. Get the site down pat. Go in prepared and come out in one piece. The old timers know exactly what I am talking about. Do this long enough and you will see the accidental, stupid and idiotic in action. Be the professional!

Good one... and so true!
I've seen some similar styled in lists in antique auto hobby publications over the years. They do apply.. and do make you think..

In most cases I would say maybe not stupid or idiot, just inexperienced or misinformed. However, if one choses to go into an area unprepared and is aware of the risks then maybe the last three just may apply. JMHO.

If you ever get to the Grand Canyon in the summer go to one of the trail heads. About dark watch those that could crawl out. You will see a example of the above list from professional to stupid. The idiotic and dead are brought out by helicopter. If you are there in the morning you can pick each type out as they go in. It's easy. They are well equipped or have a small bottle of water and are wearing Pickway shoes. Those not well equipped come out with no water, if they come out on their own. The shoes are not important because they are crawling on their hands and knees.

I believe I've seen some of your finds posted elsewhere. You have it down. + slow is better. At least that's what my wife said.
