Great idea RM, thanks for the tip.

They'll be ripping the main street into my valley here soonish, they just finished the big intersection off the freeway.

I did search along the torn up sidewalks and the parkways along closed buildings. I did manage one silver quarter, but for 5+ blocks and many hours of searching it was poor at best. At least I do better in the Chicago sidewalk tear-ups

The key is...that the street they are tearing up are the original streets. More often than not the street had been replaced at least once before and all of the dirt dug up and moved and new dirt put in its place.

Before I drove up there I was perusing the local newspaper (who now made it unavailable on-line unless you pay $70+ /year ). Anyway I was reading on how they were finding a lot of old bottles and stuff when they dug up the streets. When I was up there some guy told me about picking up old trolley car something or other so I did have hope. Given the chance I'll do it again, nice and sandy to easy to MD

If there's sand...its not the original layer of dirt...you won't find anything there.

No dirt, it is sand, sand and more sand. Same with the sidewalks - sand when they rip them up. The whole city is built on sand LOL. I usually try and make one trip a year to visit my grandparents & dad's grave, check on the 'hood, fish some and MD even more. Hopefully they will be doing more road work / sidewalk tear-ups.

In my area they just seem to remove the top layers of tar when replacing roads so I'm limited to sidewalk tear-ups. Would love the chance to try roads
