In a nearby town.....an auctioneer bought an estate....nice old Victorian place that was still furnished with all of the antiques. He restored the buildings to their former splendor and then decided to landscape the place and had several loads of topsoil brought in. The topsoil gave up seven 20 dollar Saint Gaudens Gold coins.
Yep it happens. We were spreading the last bt of topsoil on my place....which was the original topsoil that I'd piled up prior to doing a huge landscaping job here.....and I scooped up a bucket of dirt with the Bobcat....flipped the bucket up and saw a round, white disc in the dirt....I knew what ot was immediately. I shut down the Bobcat....keeping my eyes transfixed on the area where i'd seen the disc. It was a 1913 Barber dime. Our webmaster was here that day.....so he can vouch for that one. My Step-dad was an excavating contractor and frequently hauled in topsoil, which he'd frequently turn and stir to keep the weeds down. One time he'd just done this, and a heavy rain came up. When I was riding my dirt bike a few days later....I spied what I thought was a coin....it was...a 1904 Barber Quarter just laying there smiling at me. Wyatt |

Thanks Dylan, good info, I guess you never really know what any site will yield, new dirt or existing.
