Default Making more headway!

Well, I had joined the Yahoo group for the Hyde Park Neighborhood, and I got an email this morning that I was accepted (one of the mods there did email me and ask my intentions, and I explained...)

Anyway, here's the message I'm going to post there - tell me what y'all think:

Quote:
Greetings all -

My name is Robert Chapman, and I was just accepted to the group -
thank you William!

As I explained to William, I'm not an actual "member" of Hyde Park -
but I live in South Austin, however, and I have been doing a lot of
research on the fascinating history of Hyde Park... I just learned
about the horse racetrack that was here, and I was really surprised to
learn that the State Fair of Texas started here!

My interest in history goes along with my hobby of metal detecting...
one of my favorite areas to search are the easements between the
sidewalk and the street... I would really love the chance to search
along the easements there in the neighborhood, with everyone's
blessings, of course... I never hunt anywhere without permission or if I feel like my presence would not be welcome.

I have heard and read about some of the vandalism and crime that has
occurred in the neighborhood as of late, however, and I wouldn't want
anyone to be off-put by my presence there. Please be assured that I am
a trustworthy individual; I'm a dad of a 15 yr old son who sometimes
(reluctantly) joins me and takes pictures; I pride myself in my
ability to leave the places I search in as good of shape as I find
them, and I pick up trash as I find it, and dispose of potentially
harmful metal objects I find while searching.

Anyway, I just wanted to say howdy and say thank you for letting me
join the group!

Please feel free to shoot me an email if you have any questions...

Regards,
Robert Chapman

Ooh, if you could just see some of these streets... old, old houses... many of them going back to the early 20th cent... lots of easements... there's even one home there with 2 hitching posts on the easement! Original hitching posts!

Sounds like a great opportunity...I have been detecting on a 500 ac farm that is all row crop.....a major railroad used during the Civil war runs through the middle of it.....nothing but the bed left....An older gentleman pointed out two locations where homes use to be....I checked it out for a little while yesterday....a lot of trash but I look forward to spending more time there. I hope you haul in a big load of finds....!
