I just remembered today that I once saw something in a book at a historical festival about there being an old country 'town' that was down the road about a mile from me(I live in the country)...only 150 or people or so lived there. I think it was slowly taken down in the 1950s. Being new to detecting coins and valuables, I don't know where to get information. Are local libraries the best places to get information and maps?

I would also go to the local library and look at old newspapers from that time.

Also to help you get an idea of the name of the town, your local detector shop has books that give names of ghost towns, etc. in your state.
It might have the town you are looking for.

Then do a search on your computer.

ALSO, IF YOUR TOWN, STATE HAS A HISTORY BOOK PUBLISHED AS MANY DO, IT WOULD BE WELL WORTH YOUR TIME TO PURCHASE ONE. I OWN SEVERAL THAT DEAL WITH MY TOWN AND SEVERAL SURROUNDING COUNTIES AND TOWNS. FULL OF OLD PHOTOGRAPHS, INFORMATION....PAPPY
