Research is paying off !!

Well it seems that research was the key once again. I found a new ghost town here in my area. The name of the town is called Babylon and it was in operation from July of 1878 to March of 1887. It seems that here in southern Utah there was a lot of these little towns that sprung up due to the high concentration of different minerals but what always happened was the towns played out in a hurry due to the methods of retracting those minerals.

This certain town was just across from the town that i hit very often ( Silver Reef ) and many of the areas newcomers would move to Babylon to get away from the crowded areas and rampant violence. The area was also a lot closer to the areas main water system ( the Virgin River ) So the folks that lived here had a lot easier time and were sucsesfull for many years.

Research is 90% of medal detecting !! I have been researching Cherokee Indian Subscription Schools of the middle 1800s here in my town of Dewey , Oklahoma and discovered a Idian Subscription School which is now a field !! Back then the kids didnt have much money to bring to school BUT the Jewlery finds are FANTASTIC ! I found a madalion that had a date on the back of a silver thunderbird of 1910 and I donated it to the Cherokee Indian history museum . HAPPY HUNTNG ! KENNETH
