Default Great place to hunt in Greenville Texas

This is for all you North Eastern Texans and anybody else that may decide to come hunt in Hunt County, Texas.

My late aunts notes also state that this area was also where the Barnum and Bailey Circus used to set up when they came to town. That was about 11 different times between 1883-1937. Ought to be something there once you get permission to hunt. I am headed over that way later today to try out a couple of hot spots myself. Actually on Bourland street and then on over on Stonewall. Couldn't get permission to hunt so I decided to buy the lots...... Now the wife is wondering if I lost it or not. I was actually going to buy them before I did the research on them. Now the research sorta influenced my decision. The Stonewall Street Location had a house predating 1881.. It is gone now. Bourland location was a vacant lot until 1893. Then became vacant again after a house fire in the 60's.

Default re: Great place to hunt in Greenville Texas

Phillips Field (supposedly) was South of where you were hunting earlier, looks like an interesting place to hunt still, luckily the field isn't covered by pavement yet.

Default The memories on Up The Grove

We used to live on Up The Grove back when I was in 2nd Grade. I remember coming home to find a police car in my driveway. My mother and father were divorced and my father was driving the police car. On the way home walking from school, my older brother had gotten into a fight with some neighborhood kids and we thought the cops had come to take him away.

I never heard of Philips Field and found no notation of it in my notes. I will check with my father and mother. They may recall it. I think it is time to get all the info I can out of mom about where to and where not to hunt. I have a lot over off Stonewall and another over off Bourland that I plan on Hunting. Several more but I have to locate my list.

Thought about getting a bunch of locals together and seeing if they want to share locations. I basically can do anything I want on the lots I have to hunt other than sell them. The owners are old family friends.

I forgot, there is also one over on Whitworth Street and another over on Caddo. I have hunted the Caddo street house several times. There is a big old pine tree out front and to the right of the sidewalk, as you face the house, there are several pets buried. This was once my aunt's house. 3818 Caddo, Greenville, TX.

Default Several of those towns are still there.

Whiterock Lake is still there. The only one I do not recognize is Humphries. Dixon is between Greenville and Lone Oak. It is just a few scattered houses now and a KOA camp ground. Found lots of arowheads there. Also a lot of bottles.

My cousin lives in Merit and we fish for catfish and bass at Wieland. They may as well be called ghost towns though. Campbell was the original site of Mayo College before it moved to Commerce and over by Dixon is supposed to be the cache capital of Hunt County. My mother and Aunt searched that area and probably missed a lot..

They have a trades day over in Whiteright once a month and one in Paris every weekend. One in Quinlan as well come to think of it. Hadn't went to one of them in years. Canton weekend is this weekend as well.

My great Grandfather died at Ellard's Switch. Supposed to have been a community over close to Quinlan. I think Lake Tawakoni covers it now. Then there is the original town of Flatts. Most of it got moved before the lake was put in. Also Jacobia is practically a ghost town. It think there is still the old church and that is about it.

Default If you are looking for more suggestions on where to hunt...

I've never been to the county, but here's a link to some sites listed on USGS topo maps for Hunt County, TX (that's where I found the reference to Phillips Field):
http://www.lat-long.com/Lookup.cfm?N...at-Long+Search

If you don't yet have a topo map of the county, I can e-mail you one in JPG format.
