In 1718, the pirate Bonnet buried three chests of cold and silver close to the mouth of the Cape Fear River, near the end of the peninsula. He was captured, tried and hanged. The three chests were never reported found. There are more leads. I need to find a better way to list them. some are very wordy and long.
