Default A treasure lead.

Looking for your thoughts on the following find/lead.

I found an old book of true stories. One of the stories tell about a old couple holding on to a large amount of coins in their farmhouse but living rather poorly. The story ends without a hint of the coins, if it was spent, moved or hidden. Just that it was seen at that time.

There are enough clues in the story to start a search or at least get more information. Which is where Im at now.

I new to MD and certainly no Treasure Hunter but I can research and I have narrowed it down to a 5 mile area, pending more clues that will help narrow it down further, like the where abouts of another land mark and the elevation of the farmhouse vs the town.

Here's the question, This is a published book in the 60's, Im sure it has been read :) The beauty thing is it is not a treasure book of any sort just one of the many true stories in the book. This to me is promising in itself.

Where do I go from here?

My first thought is to research the town and see if I can get more info on it but no real dates are given, to see old newspapers to current to see if any thing was found.

What do you think?

As I mentioned Im no treasure hunter I dont have the time or money to invest in such ventures, and & know 99.9% of the time people come up empty. But its hard to pass up something you stumbled on thats not that far and not well known or mainstream story.

I would start with the real property office or the county clerk. They may be able to tell you where the house stood or you may find it on old maps. Especially if you have the names of the people that lived there and I am assuming you do. Sometimes you can even do a google search and get information on records from different counties and places. Try that. Also the library is a good place to check. You can check birth and death certificates also that might give you an idea of the time line so that you can narrow down your records search. Good luck and keep us posted.
