Nice haul Hawk! That's some real nice stuff! I haven't dug for them yet but I do have one cluster and one big ol' hunk of some nice purple from Australia. I'll have to post a pic in the new forum. I have been trying to track down a location I came across in some old geology books for some Amethyst. Congrats on a nice dig!

Made it out again today and opened up another hole to the vein....alot of digging, using picks and big prybars. Towards the end of the day we got to the vein. The next time out we should (hopefully) be getting to some good stuff. Thought you might like to see some pics of what's going on.

Here's a couple of extra pictures to give you a better view of what's going on with this dig. We had 8 people there that day. The resident Beagle was doing her job as usual, keeping a close watch on things.....LOL. I didn't really get any specimen pieces this time, as I was punching a new hole. The others that were working their existing holes did quite well, similiar results to what I posted last week.

I just had a terrible thought......how would you like all your digging to be like this when metal detecting?........sheesh...

GREAT FINDS! Boy that sure is back breaking work! I did some amethyst digging about 10-12 years ago in Georgia. July 4TH weekend mid 90's and humid! We put a tarp up for shade and the four of us dug a hole 12 ft long 4 ft wide and 6 ft deep before finding a good vein. The property has since been bought and is now a big commercial venue. But we did come away with some nice Cox's Crossroads crystals!

Hey Bill,

That's some pretty rough work in summer! The tarp makes a huge difference. I know who to call when we get to the tough stuff!....LOL

You make a good point, in that, alot of places get bought up and changed, so you cant do stuff on them like Metal Detecting, Rockhounding, Prospecting,...etc. The world we live in is getting smaller each day.
