Default Amethyst Crystals

Wow....I get to be the first to post on this forum!!

This past Saturday I had the pleasure to spend about five hours getting muddy, digging a 3 foot hole that kept filling with very cold water, chipping away at rock with a rock hammer, hunched over in uncomfortable positions, in a quest to find those elusive amethyst crystals.

Was it worth it? You be the judge.

Hawk

Looks like some of them have a darker hue to them. Do you ploish them or leave them in their natural state?

Hey Steve,

I haven't done anything with them yet other than wash them off. I will clean them up when I get time....probably some cold, rainy day when I can't do anything else.

That darker hue is what you really want. That is what really sets the amethyst apart from the other quartz.....very pretty. Hope to get some darker stuff next time out.

Hey Terri,

Steve just created it. If it gets enough interest, I think it could possibly move up from a Sub-Forum to a Forum......so post to your heart's content!

Minelabman,

In my case, how I learn about all this stuff is being a member of a Gem and Mineral Club. For me, it's alot easier to learn by listening and talking to others that are doing it......kind of like the forum here. It also helps to have someone with you to show you what to do......you learn many times faster. Clubs have field trips and individual members also team up to do stuff which is fun. I was into fossils, arrowheads and such as a kid, and studied as much as I could about geology and such...so the interest has always been there. I'll bet you got some real neat stuff up in your neck of the woods.

I never thought about a club, but that's a good idea. I guess there's good stuff around here, I did find 2 points (in my entire lifetime) and some different rocks just playing around. I'm sure I walked over many things without even "seeing" them.
