My first thought was meteorite. Might be an Iron or Nickel Meteorite, judging by the silver in the center. Does the silver area have a distinct crystaline appearance? How does it rub on the ceramic? But you said it was non-magnetic? HMMMM.

Echo.....My son collected those for years......I use to tell him they were what was left of shooting stars.....a father son thing...however he is all grown up now. If I'm not mistaken it is a piece of Iron ore......Shooting star just sounded better....Thanks for allowing me to remember a fond memory.
