I am all for it! Very good idea. I have never hunted rocks, but I could learn, and would like to, Beale.

Pappy,
I'll be watching this forum with great interest. As a child I used to hunt trilobites in the Northern Michigan limestone. Here in Southern California I would love to take my kids out to get some hands-on geology under their belts. Fossils, gems whatever. They would love to crack rocks with little hammers!

As a side note. Do you have any idea on public lands with interesting rocks here in the San Diego region? I'm embarrassed to say it, but I haven't done much exploring outside of the city. Unless you include fishing .

Any map, directions, reviews, etc. would be awesome. Thanks!
