Hi all,
I received a letter from a young lady whose husband lost his wedding ring at the South Shore swimming area of Moraine State Park. She is asking for any help from detectorists who may have found the ring or would like to put together an organized hunt to search for it. The ring is a silver wedding band size 16 with engraving "Eternally yours 8-2-03". If anyone has found this ring please contact Paul or Jolyne at 724-728-1371. The ring has a very sentimental value. She also stated that the park ranger has given her permission to search the beach and grounds to find the ring. It may be in the water, so maybe someone with a water detector could also help out. If anyone would like to get together and organize a hunt, please let me know... |

Greg,
The Park is part of Lake Arthur which is north of Pittsburgh, PA. Not sure what county it is in but I do know that it is close to I-79. Maybe Beaver or Butler County. |

Well guys,
The ring has been found and returned to it's owner. I received an email from the lady just this morning. It seems a member of a local club had found the ring and through her efforts she finally made contact with the man and he just returned the ring yesterday. Here is her letter. Hi Michael, I very much appreciate your efforts...I have good news though! We found the ring today. A member of a local club had picked it up 2 days after we lost it. It just took us this long to find him. We met up with him, and we do have our ring back. Thank you for all your efforts and kindness. I belong to a detecting club called Treasure Seekers USA... http://treasureseekers3.tripod.com/ I came across your website and thought this might be of interest to your club. I have to say the park is kept exceptionaly clean by the Butler Treasure Hunters Club. I drove up to help Jolyne hunt for the ring. Tony R. from the Butler club had found it on July 5.
I had spent about six hours in the water in waders (with a minor leak) trying to find anything. Had 1 hair band in my pocket. Jolyne and I were talking to Sandy (one of the park rangers). I explained the problem and we asked Sandy if she knew any of the locals that hunt the water. I had just changed into swimming trunks and was going to go back in the water for the little extra depth that I missed with the waders when Sandy drove up and said I think we've found your ring. Hats off to the Butler Treasure Hunters Club. Within thirty minutes Tony met us and returned the ring without a qualm. Must be a great club to have such great folks as members. As an aside, Jolyne was afraid to tell the truth about the ring. It was not silver and it was size 16! I'd never seen a ring that size till then. Just to be there when the ring was returned made my day! Kuddo's to Tony and his club! And a special thanks to the manager and staff of Moraine for allowing detecting. While they restrict grass recovery to a screwdriver, and permit scoops in the water they are a bunch of fine folks. Without their assistance the ring might still be lost. Though Jolyne sent letters and flyers to most clubs in the area. God Bless! |
