Hi Everyone!

I've been detecting over a year and I've only found about $2-$3 dollars in change, some of it with the machine off, so I have decided to go green.

Instead of getting aggravated with trash finds, I am going to make it my mission to clean up the Earth when and where I can with my md. I know we all do our part, but what do you think about joining me for "national clean up" days?

You'll only need three things to help:
1. your md
2. a canvas or denim bag from your local discount/dollar store
3. dedication to designated days

For those of you who have recycling programs, we can take this a step further. Also, you could get together in groups and have special t-shirts to tell the locals what you're up to. It will make our reputations as mders better too. How many archeologists do you see picking up modern trash????

Think about it!

My only concern is that if we clean up too much trash...what are the metal detectorists of the future going to hunt for? I mean, can you imagine an end to pull tab counts in signature lines? Some of us might even have to hang up our detectors

But seriously - I'd be surprised to hear anybody out there who is reburying any trash they find - that just seems to go against the detector's code. I mostly hunt on my own property, but I try to carry a trash bag with me when I go, or I at least carry out any trash I find, above ground or below. And the foil and cans go into a special container for a friend of mine to collect and turn in for cash. He has a daughter with MS and it helps pay for a lot of her extra care and activities.

Default Welcome

WELCOME to the TQ FAMILY. We look forward to your pic's and post's. I for one and I'm sure everyone else here always picks up the trash both above and below ground when we a MD'ing. It's the right thing to do.

Welcome to TQ!! I know that I always pick up any trash I find. I get upset when I find holes that other have dug and just left the dadburn trash in there for me to pick up. I think pretty much everyone here thinks the same way. Besides, if we don't pick it up now, it will not allow us to find stuff that may be below it.

Besides, if you're talking about not digging coins on the days designated, that's pretty much me, every day. Not finding much more than trash at the moment. Thanks for the reminder!! hehe

Hi and welcome to TQ.

I think I'll continue searching for treasure, that way I'm sure to find alot of trash (that I dispose of), it's been working so far .

It is a nice idea and maybe if I start searching for trash, I'll find treasure instead .

We're a friendly bunch here so let us know what type of detector you're using and areas that you've been hunting and I'm sure plenty will chime in with pointers to help you increase your good finds!

Default Good points

I know most of us are good at cleaning up what we find. I've also met those at group events who say quietly "oh that bleep is just trash" and walk away without picking it up. Besides, if we go to a park or something and get the dirty work done, then there's more time and good stuff to concentrate on during future visits. Also, little kids will have less chance of getting cut by this stuff. My dad used to md and he still claims that we'll never run out of the old fashioned pop tabs.
