55,000 pennies!

I saw this on TreasureHunting.com and thought it was pretty interesting.

Apparently the lady isn't a metal detectorist, but she collected 55,000 pennies in 19 years... that's just crazy! I can only imagine what kind of cool ones she's got. I was wondering if anyone told her to check for wheats and indian heads and such.... just thought I'd share!

Can you think of how much work it would be to look through 55,000 pennies to look for wheats and other oldies? If she starts now, maybe she will be done in another 19 years.

When I was in high school, there was a local owner of a car lot who's daughter's name was Penny. When she was born, he started saving pennies and by the time she turned 16, he was able to buy her a brand new car. It made the papers and everything.

Hahaha! I didn't even think of how long it would take... you're right, scrap it up, grab your $550.00 and let the bank re-circulate 'em.

And Pris that's a better story than this one! A new car is a way better ending then having to roll 55,000 pennies! lol!!

Oh and considering it really is not worth much, I think I would just keep saving just for the heck of it.

"Woman dies and 12,987,523 pennies are found in her basement. It appears that the penny collecting got out of hand and all storage containers were used up so she just started to pile the pennies on the floor in a corner of the basement. The pile is approxamitly 8 feet around and nearly 5 feet high. Vicki's family is unsure what to do with the huge amount of pennies. One family member says "It took Vicki a big portion of her life to collect all of these pennies, it seems like a waste to just cash them all in at the bank." Family members are considering donating the pennies to a museum for display but at this time no museums have shown interest in this offer.




Sometimes I enjoy doing a little creative writing. I wrote a story about a new breed of frog a couple of weeks ago. I will post it in the general chat section if anyone is interested.

I'd sure hate to have to roll all those up, I remember seeing a story somewhere that a guy who owned a gas station saved all his pennies, the customers heard about it & used to toss their pennies in, he ended up having to put them in a 55 gl drum, filled up a few then finally took them to the bank & turned them in.

I wonder how many pennies are in my 2 1/2 gallon container... mmmmm guess its time to check them out and see...
