Default HELP part 2

I just read the last post about helping to select a M.D. but as usual got lost. Can some one please tell me what I need to get/look for?
I live in the Chgo. land area so weather might be a factor. I am so NEW to this and here. I Like to look for OLD metals. Coins, jewery, farm stuff, bottles, relics and would love to find Indian relics.really no idea at all. (A REAL BEGINNER)
I have an old radio shack M.D. now, that didn't pick up anything.(nothing else identifies it except radio Shack) I hand dug in recent exploring. LOLTried as I might. It picked up small garden shovel I brought with ,but, not the rake or any of the iron I found. yes I tried all functions and sensitivity levels.
Another thing, Where would I go like today to purchase one? Sports stores, Sears, wal mart? have no clue. LOL
I tried to attatch photo's of my "treasures"here but it wouldn't let me . tHIS IS THE MESSAGE i GOT.
