Default White's testing of my BHID 7/02/09 ...

Howdy fellow water detectorists...

My BHID has been giving me hicups in the water and not really finding too much of anything....So a call for help went out. RNSpeed and also FloridaBill pointed me in the right direction with POC's and that led me today to drive over to Freeport, Fl to the Southeast Region White's Distributor. I called and talked to John and he told me to bing in my BHID and they would pressure test it and see if that was the problem...Well first off, this place is off the map in a sleepy hollow of a beautiful place right by Chocktaw Bay...It turns out I went there right after work. So the technician, Warren takes the BHID apart, goes over each item looking for obvious damage (there is none) and then we walk to the back to pressure test the unit. They have what I think was a 10 gallon painters pressure pot and placed the unit (minus the shaft) inside of the pot. He sealed it shut and them I think he pressurized the unit to about 35-40 psi with a small air compressor. He let it stay there for a less than five minutes, then took it out and submersed it in a five gallon bucket of water. This is how they tell if you have a leak. No bubbles coming out of your unit, no leak. If you have a bad seal or cracked case, the pressure will slowly release and when immersed will show up as bubbles... So we talked for a bit more about what I have to do to try to duplicate the symptoms but the number 1 thing I took away beside the great customer service was that after each use of a water detector, you should remove the batteries so no leakage and corrosion may occur...hope this helps every water detectorist, and I'll let you all know if I can figure out my gremlins...

Rick

Sounds like it was worth the trip but I take it no leaks? One thing I have noticed is that the machine doesn't like to be half in or out of the water. I have my best results either all the way under or all the way out.

I am sure they tested your coil wire etc. Do you hunt in AM mode? If not learn to hunt in AM mode. At first you may not like it but after a while you will wonder how you ever hunted in disc. mode.

Is it happeneing at all the beaches or just one. That could also lead to interference in the area or even a lot of small iron or whatever in the water. And I never leave my batteries in any machine.
