Well I mailed the gold out on 9/10, Midwest received it 9/12 (Sat.) and I got the check today 9/16, the envelope is postmarked 9/14 so that's a 2 day turn around and one of those days was Sunday!
I also found out that if it's less than 3 ounces they don't assay it and they calculate the typical weight loss from the melting which accounted forabout $20. I'm not exactly sure if I have this right. He told me they test it to determine what karat it is (I only sent in 14k) and then they weigh it, from that they calculate the weight loss and detect it. Sounds like they won't melt such a small amount, if I had know 3 ounces would have done it, I would have sent more.....Anyway, now we all know

!
What I learned that I found surprising is that they will melt any US silver dimes, quarters halves and dollar coins (they don't mess with nickels) 1964 and older and any current gold or silver Eagle bullion coins. I really didn't think any US coins could be melted...live and learn.
