Default Must Have Book to Read on White's VDI Numbers!

Robert C Brockett

Taking A Closer Look at Metal Detector Discrimination

Amazon.com: Taking A Closer Look At Metal Detector Discrimination: Books

It goes through discrimination settings for different types of detectors.
VDI or Visual Discriminator Indicator numbers on analog meters and LCD meters.
This book TELLS you the different types of metals AND the most common forms of these metals you are going to find while detecting and where they fall on the VDI scale.
The book shows examples of these finds in several star burst shaped patterns to further illustrate these VDI numbers. It also superimposes a "Disc" control knob with numbers and correlates these numbers to the VDI readout on the analog screen and LCD screen.
One picture is filled with rings and where they fit on the VDI range.
Chapter 4 is a comprehensive breakdown of the meter by tens and describes:
The type of items in each range
Their size
The thickness of each target
The number of different metals in each range
Their shape

For example, how many of you don't dig +50 to +60 screwcap ranges because all you ever get is screwcaps?

1856 Half Dimes, $10.00 U.S. Gold Piece, Two Cent Piece, $20 Dollar U.S. Gold, 1892 Barber dime,Tokens, Wheats, RGP rings, Indianheads, $100 Bahama Gold Coins, and screwcaps.

Chapter 6 deals with sounds and depth. Chapter 7 deals with digital meters and discrimination and the mysterious +95. Chapter 8 is on water hunting. The rest you'll just have to read for yourselves.
