Default Minelab E-TRAC for hunting gold nuggets?

I am interested in purchasing the Minelab E-TRAC, but would like to know if it can be used to hunt for natural gold nuggets. I hunt mostly coins and relics now, but would like to take this unit occasionally to Arizona and California to nugget hunt.

Does anyone have experience with the E-TRAC in highly mineralized soil? Does it have enough discrimination and ground balancing to work well in these soils?

Thank you for your comments and suggestions…

Jim

hey, Howie, I'd get a small round or 6 x 8 SEF coil and think you'd do OK with nuggets. Check out Robs "nuggethunting.com"

Please correct me if I'm wrong but the E-Trac is pretty much a super coin Relic machine. If your going after gold I believe other machines would serve you better.

I bet it would do fine. I know on my Exterra 705 that it recommends a higher frequency coil for gold hunting, and Etrac has all the freqs built right in.

They still say the Etrac isn't for gold, but i've talked to a few that say with a smaller coil it will do fine.
