Default An amazing day with a first find

Well yesterday i scouted out a ballfield and hit a few dimes. I thought it would be nice to hit today as well since yesterdays hunt was kinda short.

I had to take my son to town so he could meet up with his JROTC group for a parade march this morning, and, since the parade wasn't going to be THAT long I decided to detect until he called for me to go get him.

Well I started hitting the ballpark fields and those few dimes I got yesterday were the bulk of the finds. I think I got an additional 10 memorial cents in 2 hours. Lots of foil and pull tabs, wire, etc.... everywhere.

Well since the ball field was a washout I decided to go to my favorite park that I have dunned "penny park". I go there every week and always come out with a handful of memorial cents.

I drove the 3 miles to the park and was met with a rather amazing surprise. It appears that the park is being revamped. All the playground equipment had been ripped out and piled in a heap. All the containment matting had been pulled up and piled dirt and all in a heap. They even cut down some of the big trees that were rotten/hollow in the middle. These trees were also hauled up and piled in a heap.

I knew I didn't have long to hunt since my son was due to call and I had promised my husband I would take him shopping today, he mentioned something about needing new pants. I could not abandon my glorious site that had been especially prepared just for me, or at least thats what I told myself. I had to do some quick thinking so I could savor this.

Well my son called and it was time to leave, so I called hubby and pleaded my case. I said its not every day you get a park fixed like this and it sure isn't going to stay. I asked for 3 hours to play in the park and he reminded me that I had been playing for 3 hours previously. But, But, But, please, please, PLEASE!!!!!!! He finally relented and I took the kid home and hot footed it back to penny park.

Penny park is a small park but when the city drags things around, they make a mess and drop things. I was hitting targets every few feet with the 250.

I got over by the big old tree that had been cut down and got my first ever ring find. Its not real and its kinds pathetically stained but its a ring, and a ring, is a ring, is a ring and it don't matter how bad it looks. I will get a picture up as soon as I can. These were all shallow finds as I was pressed for time and had been reduced to begging. I am thinking real seriously about going back in the morning for the rest of the stuff I didn't find.

The take for today at penny park:
7 quarters all clad oldest was a 1966
5 nickles
7 dimes
49 memorial cents
Total 68 coins = $3.19

Charm from 90's graduation cap tassel of local high school
1 22cal bullet
1 child's junk ring
Broken quick fit wrench
12 inch landscape spike
8 inch landscape spike
and a shopping bag of trash, nuts, bolts, razor blade, foil, poptabs.

As a side note to myself and others: Call the city parks department and ask what the date for park repairs is. This makes it much easier to get the deeper targets.

All the other park users just saw a mess but you saw an opportunity and you made it pay off.
WTG, on landing your first ring, more will follow.
