Default Can't get any depth from Dual Field

I live in Hawaii. I am new to metal detecting but have spent several full days practicing with my dual field. I have read the book by Mr. Clynick. I have found about $6 worth in coins and tons of bobby pins and bottle caps. My problem is this... I can't find anything deeper than 6 inches. I even put my own Large gold wedding ring slightly deeper than 6 inches and can't hear anything! It is very frustrating! I have tried many different settings. Usually I have the gain at about 3 o'clock, pulse delay just barely on, and threshold at or above the recommended mark. Anybody have any tips or clues as to what to listen for or how to hear deeper targets? Or willing to meet with me and show me?

Aloha Caleb, your machine can go way deeper than 6 inches.. you saw i have the same machine... looks like we need to meet up and see what we can do about that. You , Killa, and I will all be running the dually soon.. Killa gets his this week. I think you just still need to train your ears some.. hey it took me months to start to get it.With our Black sand it is a really trick learning the sound changes. Hang in there. Mikey, PM me..I'll give you my Phone #.

Are there any videos out there that have the sounds the metal detector is making while hunting? It seems like that would be a huge help.

Default Finally found something good.

I spent a few hours practicing today and finally found some gold! 14K wedding band. It was about 10-12 inches deep. Also the coins and fishing sinkers I found were 6 inches or so down. I think I might be getting better at hearing targets at better depth.

You're a credit to surf pirates, Mikey. Damned decent of you to offer your time and experience to a new hunter.
Just hang in there Caleb, it takes time and practice to master a machine but once you do it will be much easier to hunt.

Congrats on the great ring find. Learning your machine is one of the best things you can do to enhance your ability to find the more valuable items buried in the ground, and as you continue the finds will become more and more prevalent.
