Just started 3 weeks ago and am already hooked. trying to find as many sites/forums as possible. Its great to be here and I look forward to seeing and learning from all of you.
My first trip out I found a small Dalton/Bird Point and several scrapers. Last trip out I found a broken point and looks as though it was a big one. Its the bottom half of it so its still a cool find in my book. Anyway, if any of you are in my area Ponca City, Ok feel fre to PM me. Would be nice to meet up with some pro's Great site here and look forward to meeting all of you. Best, Chris |

majakldragon,
Thanks for the welcome!! I dont have a detector yet....but want to invest in one down the road a bit. I am an aspiring knife maker and the tools/machinery cost is eating me alive....lol I do have a few terrible pictures of a couple things I found: ![]() ![]() ![]() I have a lot more interesting finds IE scrappers etc...but these are the best ones I have found so far. Not too bad for only being involved for about 3 weeks! I plan on doing more research of my area and hope to find some god spots to take the family out again. Its great out here...even if nothing is found, Oklahoma is a cool spot for outdoor folks. I am from Phoenix, Az and have only been here a little over a year now. A lot different from the desert....lol Thanks again for the welcome! Will be seeing you around Chris |

Thanks guys!!!
Its a great state. I love to hunt/fish so I am in the right place....lol We just moved from Wa State...Pullman to be exact. Went up there to be closer to my wifes father....work was slim to none so I called my mom and said we are moving down to Oklahoma. Grew up in Arizona so all this nice country I have been in the last couple years have been a great change!!! |

Nice pics Chris. One way justify getting a detector would be that you can use it when your hunting the points and any coin or jewelry finds you make could help fund your knife making hobby. When you think like I do, you can make all kinds of hobbies work together.

I hear ya buddy! My wife calls me obsessive compulsive...I agree with her.....lol I will start checking around and try to find me a detector. What would you recommend a good entry level MD be?
Might even pick a couple up for both of us to get out. Anything that has to do with being outdoors is money for us Thanks again pardner. Chris Quote:

Figure out what your budget would be and get the best one that falls in that range. Check out the pawn shops around you as they have some really good deals too. I am swinging an Ace 250 and its a very good detector at $212 but there are others for less. The Tesoro Compadre(lifetime warranty) and the new Whites Coinmaster are both less than $200 or if you want to go for the best of the best you can get the new V3 for around $1500 and go up from there. None of the above are waterproof and the control box needs to be kept dry. There are waterproof ones in all ranges so it just depends on what you find in your price range. IF all you can afford is a cheap bounty Hunter model then I say go for that one. Anything you get will find something as long as you learn and listen to it. This hobby does not have to be expensive, it just has to be fun.
Check out the sponsors and type the words metal detectors in your search bar. This will bring you to other dealers who may have good deals on used ones that others have gotten tired of, no time to use, bored, or wanting to upgrade. We also have some members that have a few detectors they would like to sell. Do some research on each detector and see what fits you bets. |

Excellent! I will start off with the ones you listed at around $250 or less. Just something to get us out there scavenging will be great! I will also search the forum and see if I can swing a couple of other users. Wife is going to kick my butt....lol I am almost done buying tools etc for the shop so this will give me good reason to score a few other hobbyish tools
