Default Ace 250 and Pinpointing

I use to have an ace 300 and pinpointing was a breeze.I have an xlt and the same thing; but the ace 250 is very hard to pin point with;even with the smaller coil.Anybody have any suggestion on pinpointing.

Its very frustrating to have to keep going back to the hole to find the target.Any help is greatly appreciated.

Using the sniper coil makes pin pointing much easier for me. Any coil can be off by a bit and you can check by doing an air test. There are also a bunch of videos up in youtube that show how, heres 1 of them.

Dont rely on the sound , use the bar graph, when it is full to the end then the center of the coil should be right on top of it. Be sure to do both directions in the X pattern and as the bar graph becomes full find something on the ground , twig, leaf point, off color blade of grass, small stone, or whatever right at the center of the coil and kinda use that as a marker. After you have felt sure you located the exact center of the target and the bar graph is full , slowly bring the coil back towards you without tilting the coil. At the point where the bars on the graph begin to fall off , the target should be right under the front edge of the inner ring of the coil, it should be pointing right at it. Sometimes the depth or size of the item will make it less accurate but most of the time this works. With more practice you will be able to locate and recover the target pretty quick.

I've been digging for 3 decades, and never had a pinpointing problem with any machine. But I did own an Ace 250 for a while, and it was just SOMETHING about pinpointing with that machine that I just didn't like. A really good machine, but that was just my opinion, too. I REALLY like my X-70, though. There is NOTHING about that machine that I don't like.

I agree with one of the earlier posters, use the bargraph to pinpoint not the audio. when the bargraph is at maximum deflection you should be on top of the target. I think where myself and other people have had problems at first is when the target is large or shallow and you are getting too much signal. in this case you must "detune" the pinpointer to get an accurate reading. To detune the unit tou first tune for maximum meter reading. then while still holding the pinpoint button you slide the coil 3 to 5 inches to the left or right. When the signal drops to about half scale release the pinpoint button and without moving the coil depress the pinpoint button again. The unit should now be detuned and your pinpoint should be much tighter. This is also useful in determining whether you have a small target or a can or big iron.

Default pinpointing!

I recently saw a video on the net and re read my instructions. I realize they said ground scrubbing (coil on ground) if possble. If not , then right above. I originally was doing this in reverse. Maybe it would have been a little easier to locate (while I was learning my MD). I hope this helps.
