Default Mapping your finds

* Two targets added, see http://www.treasurequestxlt.com/comm...-out-6x10.html

I started this a while back. Basically, I wanted to see what could be discerned by graphically mapping out finds for one location. The soccer complex I chose is only ~18 years old. This is one of those situations where, since the place is close to the house, I go there often, even if I know I probably won't find anything. Nowadays, finding a quarter is rare...I've really pounded it. But, there is more. Found a 14K band there a couple of weeks ago (1st gold for the V3).

I have hunted pretty much the entire area. Initially, I used the DFX and the Bigfoot to vaccuum out all of the obvious silver. Some of the gold was found that way too. Otherwise, small coils working the high traffic areas generated the best finds, one of them being a 14K white gold, 1.03 carat diamond ring (The Beep Goes On - Carat On A Stick).

It is apparent from the pic that of the 7 gold, 21 silver and 3 other items (2 halves, no hallmark cross) most of them were on the sidelines, goals, sitting/picnic/shady areas, areas funneling movement and areas that have a vertical component to the landscape (the central area of the pic with the cluster of finds is a small hill).

I did hunt the fields as best I could...just not much out there to be had. Since this field is used by soccer leagues this is to be expected. They are not going to wear much jewelry on the field, if any. A sports field that attracts a more civilian crowd will generally have more stuff on the field since the play is more spontaneous and unorganized.

I guess the one thing you can say from all this is that a location does not have to be old to contain decent finds. If it has the ground cover and a decent amount of activity, you should be able to pull something out of there.

I would be interested in any thoughts or insights this generates from your perspective.

And, thanks to SkateCreek for suggesting this topic

That is really neat. I had thought of doing something similar with my gps and using icons, but I really like the satellite view with the actual find photo listed. Neat-O!

I use Microsoft live Maps, and put down push pins with labels.
